The walls are up and construction has begun on our expansion! Hospice Georgian Triangle (HGT) and The Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation (HGTF) would like to say a huge thank you to our amazing community for their continued support. The required capital funds are currently being raised by private donations from generous residents of the Georgian Triangle.
On completion, Campbell House will have four additional patient rooms with expanded programming space to allow the HGT team of staff and volunteers to care for even more patients and their families. Construction is on track for an April 1, 2017, completion, and is now dependent on government funding for the opening and operating of the new palliative care beds.
“When we opened Campbell House, we knew we were servicing a great need for palliative care in the Georgian Triangle”, HGTF Board Chair, Bruce West said. “We knew growth would eventually be required. However, we did not expect the need to be so soon. But since we opened on August 5, 2014, capacity of our hospice is running at 80 to 90 per cent so the expansion of Campbell House is needed now.”
“The growth of HGT’s programming over the last 18 months can only be described as explosive”, HGT Executive Director Kelly Borg said. “Since opening, our professional staff and volunteer team have been working very hard and have supported over 345 patients, their families and their caregivers within Campbell House. The number of our community clients so far this fiscal year has already surpassed our total number of clients from last fiscal year. The physical growth of Campbell House will assist us in continuing our mandate to support more residents of the Georgian Triangle, where, when, and how ever they need us.”
The families that have been supported through HGT at Campbell House say it best. From Judy, Gail and Sherry, the daughters of Bea Sellers of Collingwood, “We were so fortunate that our Mom was able to spend her last six weeks at Campbell House. It was the gift of a lifetime. You allowed her to maintain her dignity, even as her disease progressed. You also supported our family members in so many ways.”
The Wish List to help furnish and equip the addition to Campbell House is now underway. If you would like to help HGT support our friends and neighbours, please log on to www.hospicegeorgiantriangle.com and click on the Wish List link to make your donation.
